Volunteers are the driving force behind our organisation...we have a number of roles currently available and operate a waiting list. All volunteers receive full support and training.
Summer Fest Holiday Club Volunteers
August 16th - 27th, Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm (Not required to do all dates/ shifts)
We need volunteers to help with our Summer Fest this August. Summer Fest is a two-week FREE holiday club being hosted by Compassion Acts in partnership with churches across Southport. For children aged 7-11 years it is primarily for those eligible for Free School Meals. We will offer a programme of high quality, enriching activities with children also being provided with lunch and a light snack each day. We want children to have an active and fun-filled experience and there will be a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, sports, cooking, dance, and drama etc. We will be bringing outside agencies in to deliver some of the programme but there will also be in-house provisions as well. It’s a great opportunity to work together to support families in our local community and we are looking for volunteers who are keen to come alongside and support the young people and encourage them to get involved.
Dates + Venues
Monday 16 – Friday 20 August
The Community Church, The Salvation Army + Cornerstone Methodist Church
Monday 23 August – Friday 27 August
Christ Church, The Salvation Army + Cornerstone Methodist Church
To oversee the activities, engage with the children and keep the club running efficiently.
There will be a variety of activities planned for each day; materials and resources will all be provided. Each centre has a Lead Volunteer in place.
All volunteers will be required to have a current DBS which we can process through our office if the volunteer doesn’t already have one. All volunteers will need to complete a form with their details and provide at least one reference.
Can be whatever a volunteer has to give as long as it means we have enough volunteers to run the club! A couple of days would be preferable as we’d love to build relationships with these children and a sense of community but if someone wants to come along for just a day or can only do mornings/afternoons then we can certainly make that work.
Anyone interested in this specific role, please email office@compassionacts ASAP.
Would suit someone with knowledge of managing and maintaining outdoor space. The Allotment Coordinator will deal with the overall management of the Compassion Acts allotment on behalf of the charity. This will involve ensuring that the allotment is well maintained, adhering to any Council regulations and working with volunteers and staff to create a rota for the use of the space. An interest in reduction of food poverty would be useful.
Food Pantry Volunteers
Weekly, varied time commitment and various locations
We have need of volunteers at a number of our Food Pantries across Southport and the surrounding areas. We have a mixture of roles available including stock control and 'front of house' chatters and cash handlers. Volunteers will also need to be confident to sign post where relevant. Full training and support will be provided. We also require a small van driver for our Pantries.
Next Steps Mentors
Do you have strong listening and empathy skills? Our long term 'Next Steps' project is looking for mentors. The time commitment is flexible and varied. You may have a background in training, coaching or pastoral work although this is not essential.
The mentor will come alongside the client to work with them on a personal plan, and to assist as needed. Examples may include form filling, budgeting, job applications, training courses, accessing mental health support and other sessions as we develop this service.
Every other Wednesday between 10am-1pm
The driver’s mate is needed to help collect food donations from collection points around Southport & Formby, and deliver them to our Hub at St Peter’s Centre. This role involves a degree of heavy lifting; moving and carrying bags and boxes along with regular loading and unloading of our van. You will need to comply with our Driving policy and be willing to attend any relevant training to your role.
If you are interested in any of these roles please complete a volunteer application form and send it to email@example.com
Please don't hesitate to get in touch to discuss roles further.
